Frequently Asked Questions

Basic info

  • We host various services, but most can be boiled down to story analysis. We review scripts, write coverage, give feedback, consult, review pitch material, and help develop projects.

Find out more about the services we provide.

  • No. One of our two primary goals is to be educators, and we will do our best to educate you on the craft and the industry. No prior knowledge is necessary to help you get your project t’s potential.

  • The short answer for most services is no. You are the creator who brought your project to us; in most cases, you'll be doing the writing. Therefore, it's yours 100%; we will hold no share of it. However, credit will be shared with the writer you work with when it comes to writing scripts and advanced development services.

  • Yes, even the stuff that is hard to hear. We believe in honesty at FADE IN: to FADE OUT, but we also believe in doing it without harming the writer. Feedback is tough to hear, but it's necessary. We live by the writer's golden rule: don't attack the writer. We will always be encouraging and constructive, not destructive. Check out our article on how to deal with feedback.

  • Yes, we do! However, it depends on what service or package you are requesting. If the package or service you request is $500 or less, we request full payment upfront.

  • Nope. The industry is notoriously unpredictable regarding what project is or isn't bought. No one can guarantee any project will be picked up and made. Not even the industry suits can ensure something will get made. We only make promises we can deliver on. Others may lie to you, we won't.

  • Due to the nature of the industry and how guarded contacts are, this is a promise we cannot and will not make. To say there is a zero chance of us not mentioning something if we believe there is interest in your project would also be a lie. We will say don't expect this if you work with us.

Coverage Questions

  • Coverage was used primarily to summarise scripts coming into an executive's office to help them decide what projects to consider optioning and producing. A reader would read the script and write a report on the script that included basic information on the writer and script, a synopsis of the story, and comments on what works and what doesn't, along with whether their boss should consider or pass on the project. It's now shifted also to be a resource to help writers improve their projects and get a glimpse of how a studio or producer may see their project. You can see an excellent example of coverage here.

  • We'll include a cover sheet with basic info about the project and a scorecard on where the script lands on its execution. The rest of the coverage is a synopsis of the story and comments outlining where the script succeeds and where it could be improved. It's not exhaustive, but it gives a great representation of how a studio may see your script. However, we will always point out key things that need to be addressed and how you could address them.

  • We understand that writing is personal, and feedback can sting regardless of how it's presented. We will always aim for constructive honesty when it comes to your feedback. If we give feedback you disagree with, you can choose to implement it or ignore it. It's your story, not ours. That said, if a reader's feedback is not up to our standards, we'll reassign your service to another reader within our network.

  • You’ll receive coverage within 72 hours of submitting your script to coverage@fromFADEINtoFADEOUT.com.

Development and Consultation Questions

  • We offer a range of development services. It can be a quick check on all your material to ensure it's ready to go out to the market, along with notes to help you tighten it up and clarify the story when you take it to producers or studios. Or it can be an extensive development process where we help you develop storylines, characters, and story arcs based on your concept.

  • All packages include a review of all your project materials with notes, script read-through with coverage, and phone consultations. Add-ons and services included in higher packages include script annotation, material rewrites, and in-depth brainstorming sessions.

  • We can help you develop a multitude of things: feature films, TV Shows, web series, podcasts, or practically any other type of media. Our team is well-versed in a variety of media, including corporate. If you're looking to connect with people through your media, we can help you find a way to make that connection. It's all about storytelling in the end.

  • That depends on a few factors. We know that the price tag for our basic development and consultation package is enticing. However, this package is meant for folks who have all their ducks in a row and are in the final stages of taking it out to market. We'll always review the needs of your project and recommend the package that best fits the project and you. We will never upsell you on a package or add-ons you don't need. We'll be transparent about what we offer, and it is up to you to choose what you want to do.

  • You'll need to fill out our questionnaire to get basic details and determine what types of development packages would work for you. Someone from our team will reach out to you to set up a meeting to discuss the packages further and give you a quote. We will only recommend the package that fits you and your project.
